Most bubbling boulders are pondless, meaning there is no pool of standing water. Instead, the water falls onto a bed of rock or gravel and filters into a hidden reservoir, where it is then pumped back up into the fountain. Bubbling boulders and similar pondless fountains are very low maintenance. You will need to add water occasionally to account for evaporation unless you install an automatic fill valve. You may need to remove leaves or debris and occasionally treat the water with algaecide to keep it clear. During the winter, you can simply remove the pump and store it indoors.
Pondless water features usually do not attract mosquitoes, as the only water is flowing and there are no basins for them to lay eggs in. Larger fountains with ponds are still mostly flowing water but can be further protected with pumps and other anti-mosquito practices.

Most homeowners see an increase of only a few dollars per month on their electric bill. We can also install timers or controllers to turn the feature off when you’re not around to enjoy it.
