Custom Putting Green Design & Construction
While there is a lot of science behind high-quality XGrass® artificial turf, the putting green design qualifies as the art. At Spear’s Landscape we understand this, so we create dynamic artificial turf putting greens that match what you want and need on your property. Here’s how we do it.

Putting Green Design
When it comes to installing outdoor (or indoor) golf putting greens, Spear’s Landscape’s goal is to make the process as easy as possible for you. We start by working with you on the design, taking into consideration the site for the green, your current landscaping and your ideas. We have experience and ideas to share with you if you, but the final say-so is yours.
We’ll put together a master plan for your putting green design that incorporates everything we discussed for you to approve and once we have a signed agreement for the design and budget, the real work can begin!
Putting Green Construction
Once the master plan is approved, it only takes a few days, depending the size of the project (and the weather), for us to complete the construction of your putting green. Throughout the building process, we're always mindful of our commitment to cause minimal disturbance of your existing landscaping while building you the best possible artificial turf putting green. Our goal is to have you become another satisfied Spear’s Landscape customer.
- We start by determining the best access route to the putting green site that will disturb the existing landscape as little as possible. Then we bring in the equipment needed to prepare the ground and shaping it to the contours of the new green.
- Next, we lay a crushed rock sub-base where the putting green will sit and position the cup sleeves based on the design. After the rock is spread, we add a fine stone dust over it and compact it to create the agreed-upon contours. XGrass SOF-STEP, an underlayment can be added to make the green a little softer and help with drainage.
- Now it’s turf time! We lay out the synthetic turf, seam it, shape it, add any fringe turf required, and cut in the holes.
- We then in-fill the turf with special round grain sand, brushing it into the fibers to give the green its realistic playing characteristics.
- Lastly, the green is rolled with a heavy roller leaving behind a perfect golf surface.
Plant the flag and your putting green is ready to go! Once the putting green construction is finished, all you need to worry about is playing on it. No watering, mowing or treating with chemicals! The only ongoing commitment you have to your new putting green is to keep it clear of debris so it doesn’t become embedded in the turf over time. We also recommend that the green be serviced annually in order to truly maximize performance. This service includes brushing, top-dressing, and re-rolling the turf. We can arrange to perform this maintenance for a reasonable per-visit fee.
