Putting Green Construction

OK, now that everyone has signed off on the design and budget for building a wonderful new home outdoor putting green, what’s next?

  1. Determine an access route. Since we want to keep from disturbing the existing landscape as much asspears landscaping putting green possible, we determine the best way to get to the putting green site. Then we bring in the equipment needed to prepare the ground, excavating or adding to the dirt and shaping it to reflect the contour of the new green and its environs.
  2. Lay a sub-base. Next we lay a crushed rock sub-base where the green will sit and position the cup sleeves – based on the approved design - in that base. After the rock is spread, we add a fine stone dust over it. Then we compact the rock and dust combination to create the agreed-upon contours of the green. Sometimes, we add an available cushion underlayment from XGrass® called SOF-STEP. This makes the green a little softer while helping with drainage.
  3. It’s turf time. Now it’s getting exciting. We lay out the synthetic turf, seam it and shspears landscape putting greenape it to the project’s specifications, add any fringe turf required, and cut in the holes.
  4. Sand In-fill After the turf is positioned, we in-fill the turf with a special round grain sand by brushing the sand into the fibers. This step gives the green its realistic playing characteristics.
  5. Rolling the green. For the last production step, the green is rolled with a heavy roller to even out a perfect surface.
  6. Plant the flag. The green is ready for playing and you’re ready to hit that ceremonial first shot.
